Dehydrated Fruit Leather

Amish children grow up on fruit leather made from real fruit grown on the homestead — a world away from processed fruit snacks.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups any ripe fruit — peaches, strawberries, apples, pears, or a mix (about 500g)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup, if needed

Method

  1. Blend fruit until completely smooth, sweetening if needed.
  2. Spread in a thin, even layer (about 1/8 inch) onto parchment-lined dehydrator trays or baking sheets.
  3. Dry in a dehydrator at 135°F (57°C) or an oven on its lowest setting with the door propped open, 6 to 12 hours, until tacky but no longer sticky.
  4. Roll up in parchment paper and store airtight.

Keeps several months — a much better snack than anything with artificial colors and corn syrup.
